CHATTOGRAM, Mar 13: Gold bars with words 'Made in Bangladesh' inscribed on them will be manufactured in Bangladesh soon, a leader of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said on Sunday.
"The world will get gold bars with the writings 'Made in Bangladesh (inscribed on them)," said former BAJUS president Dr Dilip Kumar Roy while addressing as the chief guest the Chattogram Divisional Conference of the association at THE Officers' Club in the port city.
He said incumbent president of BAJUS Sayem Sobhan Anvir will set up a gold refinery in Bangladesh in this regard at a cost of Tk 120 billion (Tk 12,000 crore) soon.
He said that in the past, the country's gold traders could not get any loan from banks in absence of rules in this regard.
Expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving importance to the country's gold industry, he said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government introduced a rule for the gold industry in Bangladesh and now, we can get loans from banks following introduction of the rules."
Mr Roy said, "All gold traders should be united under the flag of BAJUS. The gold traders who will be members of the BJA will get bank loans and all other facilities."
Chaired by President of BAJUS Chattogram committee Mrinal Kanti Dhar, central vice-presidents of BAJUS Guljar Ahamed and Md Anwar Hossain addressed the event as special guests.
BAJUS Chattogram chapter General Secretary Pronob Shaha delivered the welcome speech.
The function was moderated by BAJUS Chattogram chapter joint secretaries Kajol Banik and Hironmoy Dhar.
Among others, BAJUS Chattogram chapter vice-president Sudhir Ranjan Banik and presidents and general secretaries of all 10 districts and 45 upazila committees under the Chattogram division unit of BAJUS were also present.
