Stocks returned to the green Monday after previous day's profit booking correction with turnover crossed Tk 5.0 billion-mark on the prime bourse as investors took position amid optimism.
The market opened with a positive note and the upward trend continued till the market closure amid modest see-saw. At the end of the trading session, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX --- went up by 24.14 points or 0.51 per cent to close at 4,751.58 points.
The other two indices also closed positive. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips gained 19.06 points or 1.14 per cent to close at 1,686.29 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 6.60 points or 0.67 per cent to close at 991.75 points.
Market participation at DSE improved further with the total turnover on DSE stood at Tk 5.27 billion, registering 24.58 per cent increase over the previous session's turnover value of Tk 4.23 billion.
"Market returned to gaining streak amidst the investors' active participation after previous day's profit booking session," commented International Leasing Securities, in its daily market analysis.
"Sluggish vibe in the morning session reversed later due to upward movement in large sectors. Turnover condition had also improved by around 25 per cent than earlier session," the International Leasing Securities added.
"Having a correction in previous session, bargain hunters snuck in, pushing market back on track," commented IDLC Investments.
Meanwhile, volatility remained vigilant, especially in Micro Cap and Large Cap scrips. In line with, 32 scrips posted more than 4.0 per cent movements, demonstrating scrip wise swings, said the merchant bank.
Alongside, surge in fresh funds pulled up turnover above Tk 5.0 billion level after six sessions, it said.
"Market has marked an upbeat end reversing from red opening of the week," said LankaBangla Securities.
Currently, market has been tightly trading between a strong support and resistance which is signalled by a sideways movement of index, said the stock broker.
"Increased market turnover indicates that investors are herding on the DSE making the turnover value of Tk 5.27 billion. Financial stocks and Mutual Funds were mostly in buyers' interest on the day," the stock broker added.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX gained 59.86 points to close at 9,333.53 points.
Losers beat gainers 106 to 94, with 30 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 10.19 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 472.25 million.
