Minhaz Mannan Emon, managing director of BLI Securities, has been elected uncontested as a shareholder-director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for the next three years.
Mr Emon will be replaced by Sharif Anwar Hossain, managing director of Sahidullah Securities, who is retiring from the DSE board in line with the demutualisation scheme.
The DSE shareholder’s director post remained vacant after the end of Mr Hossain’s term. To elect a replacement, the DSE formed a three-member commission headed by Justice Md Abdus Samad, a retired High Court judge, says a press release.
According to the election schedule, the last day of the submission of nomination papers was on November 17.
No one submitted any nomination papers except Mr Emon within the period. As a result, Mr Emon was elected unopposed.
Mr Emon has thirty-five years of experience in the capital market. He served as issue manager and underwriter for several companies.
The newly elected director will join the 13-member board at the bourse’s 63th annual general meeting (DSE) scheduled to be held on December 19 this year.
The DSE board consists of seven independent directors, four shareholder directors, one from the strategic investors’ category and the bourse’s managing director, who have voting rights for electing the chairman only.
