Al-Arafah Islami Bank (AIB) appointed Mohd. Rafat Ullah Khan as its new managing director (MD) for a period of three years, effective Thursday, according to a press release.
Before assuming this position, he was working as the additional managing director and chief risk officer of the bank.
He started his career by joining Eastern Bank in 1994 as a first batch probationary officer. During his career spanning over 31 years in the banking sector, he held leadership positions at BRAC Bank, Dutch Bangla Bank and Prime Bank. He has a diverse career spanning across various banking branches and head offices, including credit risk management, corporate banking, product development and process and policy making in both Islamic and conventional banking.
He obtained his post-graduate degree in statistics from the University of Dhaka. He also holds an MBA from a private university.
