Mominul Islam has been elected as the chairman of the board of directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for the next three years.
The board members unanimously elected him at the first meeting of the newly formed board on Thursday, says a statement.
Mr Islam will replace Dr Hafiz Muhammad Hasan Babu as the DSE Chairman.
Following the political changeover on August 5, the securities regulator verbally ordered all independent directors of the DSE to step down.
Later, the BSEC appointed seven independent directors, including Mr Mominul, Major General (Rtd) Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Dr Nahid Hossain, Brig Gen Md Mafizul Islam Rashed, Syed Hammadul Karim, Mohammed Ishaque Miah and Shahnaz Sultana.
Mominul Islam, the new chairman, has 25 years of experience in renowned global and local banks and financial institutions, with an outstanding track record in leadership, strategic and technical roles.
He also has a unique track record at national and international level for policy frameworks and collaborations.
Mr Islam started off his career as an officer at American Express Bank in Chittagong in 1999. He worked with the bank until October 2005.
He joined IPDC Finance in 2006 and became its managing director in 2012. He served as its managing director and CEO until January 2024.
