MTB elects Syed Manzur Elahi as chairman, Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury as vice chairman

Syed Manzur Elahi, founding chairman of MTB and also Pioneer Insurance Company, has been elected as the chairman of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), while Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury was elected as the vice chairman.

The decisions were taken at the 314th meeting of the Board of Directors of the bank, held on Thursday, according to a press release.

Mr Elahi has won various awards for his contributions to trade and industry including "Business Executive of the Year 2000" by the American Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh.

He was also appointed adviser to the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, twice in 1996 and 2001.

He is the chairman of Apex Group and currently holds important positions at various companies based in Bangladesh.

Mr. Elahi holds an M.A. (Econ.) from the University of Dhaka. He served as the vice chairman of the bank and chairman of the Board Executive Committee for the last two years successfully.

Meanwhile, Mr Chowdhury, prior to assuming this role, was the Chairman of the board of the bank's

Risk Management Committee.

He is the director of Associated Builders Corporation (ABC), chairman of ABC Building Products, and ABC Real Estate.

He is a member of the Chartered Management Institute, United Kingdom.
