NCC launches Islamic banking

NCC Bank Limited has started operations of its Shari'ah based banking service, named 'NCC Islamic'.

The bank's Chairman Md Abul Bashar and Vice-Chairman Sohela Hossain formally inaugurated the NCC Islamic banking activities and a flagship Islamic banking branch at Gulshan-2 in Dhaka on Sunday, said a statement.

Managing Director and CEO of the bank Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid presided over the ceremony.

Former chairman and Chairman of the Risk Management Committee Md Nurun Newaz, former chairman and Chairman of the Executive Committee S M Abu Mohsin, Director and former vice chairman Khairul Alam Chaklader, Director Mohammed Sazzad Un Newaz, and Member of the Shari'ah Supervisory Committee Dr Md Anwar Hosain Molla were present on the occasion.

Chairman Md Abul Bashar in his speech said that NCC Bank is committed to providing the best and technology based innovative banking services to meet the needs of the customers in a prompt and secure way.

Considering the importance of Islamic banking in the socio-economic context of Bangladesh, NCC Bank has launched a full-fledged Islamic banking branch at Gulshan-2, he said.

In addition to this conventional banking, Shari'ah based Islamic banking will help develop the overall economy of the country as well as the banking sector, said Mr Bashar, urging the businessmen and professionals to avail the facilities offered by 'NCC Islamic'.

NCC Bank's Managing Director Mohammad Mamdu-dur Rashid said NCC Bank has started Shari'ah based Islamic banking activities taking into consideration the challenges and prospects for development of Islamic banking in Bangladesh.

He said they have initially started a full-fledged Islamic banking branch alongside Islamic banking service desks in four other branches.

Gradually, Islamic banking service desks will be introduced in all branches and sub-branches, he added.
