New MD of Shurwid Ind clarifies position

Managing Director (MD) of Shurwid Industries Zahedul Hoque Sunday acknowledged their fault in completing formalities required to legalise the extension of his job tenure due to lack of 'legal knowledge'.

At a press briefing held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on the day, Mr. Zahedul also claimed that he is holding the post of MD legally as the board extended the tenure of his job.

The clarification of Mr. Zahedul came in the backdrop of allegations over holding his post without taking consent at the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) or Extra Ordinary General Meeting (EGM).

Meanwhile, the securities regulator last week formed a body to probe into allegations brought against the MD of Shurwid Industries.

"The board took the decision of extending the tenure of my job as the company's MD. We Saturday arranged the EGM to take shareholders' consent for completing the formalities of my job extension," said Mr. Zahedul.
