Orion Pharma tops DSE turnover chart

Ten most-traded firms grab 32pc of transactions

Ten most-traded firms accounted for 32 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday, with Orion Pharma dominating the turnover chart.

Orion Pharma topped the turnover list after almost three months as investors were active in both buying and selling the company's shares, said a leading broker.

According to data available with the DSE, some 7.52 million Orion Pharma shares were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 772 million, which was 6.81 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The total turnover stood at Tk 11.34 billion on the prime bourse, which was 24 per cent lower than the previous day's tally of Tk 14.87 billion.

The drugmaker's share closed at Tk 101 each on Wednesday, losing 1.94 per cent over the previous day. Its share, however, jumped 31 per cent or Tk 24.60 each in the last one month.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) for nine months for July 2021 to March 2022 rose to Tk 3.07 as against Tk 2.98 for July 2020-March 2021 period.

The company's consolidated EPS for three months (January-March 2022) also rose to Tk 1.05 as against Tk 0.95 for January-March 2021.

Beximco came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 489 million changing hands. The company's share price shed 1.26 per cent to close at Tk 119.10 on Wednesday.

IPDC Finance clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 374 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 70.10 on Wednesday, rising 7.35 per cent over the previous day.

Makson Spinning Mills notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 354 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 5.81 per cent to close at Tk 27.30.

Turnover of Metro Spinning Mills was Tk 337 million. The company's share closed at Tk 35.30, jumping 9.97 per cent over the previous day. It was the day's second highest gainer.

Orion Infusion featured a turnover of Tk 333 million. Its share continued to rise and closed at Tk 200 on Wednesday, rising 4.60 per cent further.

The company's share jumped 85 per cent or Tk 92 each in a month despite no price sensitive information.

The turnover of Olympic Industries was Tk 259 million. The company's share plunged 3.48 per cent to close at Tk 133 on Wednesday.

Summit Alliance Port featured a turnover of Tk 257 million. The company's share closed at Tk 34, soaring 6.58 per cent over the previous day.

The turnover of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation was Tk 221 million. The state-run corporation's share dropped 2.58 per cent to close at Tk 120.80.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 206 million changing hands. The company's share advanced 1.21 per cent to close at Tk 226.30 on Wednesday.
