Japan can play a key role in increasing investments in Bangladesh in the time of 4IR (4th Industrial Revolution) by bringing in Japanese technology and sharing experiences of large-scale industrialisation.
President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam made the remarks at a webinar jointly hosted by Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JBCCI) in the port city on Wednesday, says a press release.
Country Representative of JETRO in Dhaka Yuji Ando, JBCCI President Asif A Chowdhury, CCCI Vice President Syed M Tanvir, Managing Director of New Vision Solution Ltd Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun) and Managing Partner of renowned law firm Legal Counsel Barrister Omar H Khan also addressed the event.
The programme mainly focused on attracting investment in Bangladesh, particularly in Chattogram, by Japanese investors.
In his opening speech, Mahbubul Alam greeted all on the occasion of 50 years of Japan-Bangladesh friendship.
He said that for investments to grow in the time of 4th Industrial revolution, Bangladesh needs strong technical know-how and experience. Japan and its private sector can play the pivotal role through bringing in their technology and experience of large scale industrialisation.
He urged the Japanese investors to contact the CCCI Japan Desk for their investment related queries in Bangladesh and Chattogram.
In his address, Mr Yuji Ando shared a brief presentation on CCCI Japan Desk and presented about the excellent economic situation in Bangladesh and importance of Chattogram region and future growth possibility of Chattogram into a global industrial hub.
He said, "CCCI Japan Desk run by its partners Legal Counsel, New Vision Solutions Ltd. and Bangladesh Center of Excellence (BCE) along with JETRO Dhaka will facilitate business ties between Japanese and Bangladeshi Private Sectors through providing legal, business & market information, linkage & policy advocacy service."
JBCCI President Asif A Chowdhury, in his closing remarks, stated: "CCCI Japan Desk as a development tool can help developing and developed companies alike to promote connectivity, investments, match making".
He lauded the collective effort of CCCI, JETRO and JBCCI and thanked the other speakers for their insightful deliberations.
Barrister Omar H Khan made the key-note paper at the programme. Presenting the 'Investment Climate of Bangladesh', he discussed about the essential legal and regulatory issues relevant for foreign investors.
