Robi Axiata Limited (Robi), has announced two key appointments as part of ongoing efforts towards developing talent and strengthening its human capital.
Accordingly with effect from Sunday, Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, was appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Mr. Yap Wai Yip as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Robi.
In his new role of COO, Mahtab will be responsible for Sales, Marketing, Business Operations and Service Delivery functions at Robi. Prior to this role, Mahtab functioned as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Robi since 2010. He was instrumental in improving the Company's financial performance, thus ensuring shareholder value creation, said a press release.
"Mahtab has played a crucial role in transforming Robi's finance function along with the overall transformation of the organization," said Robi Managing Director & CEO, Supun Weerasinghe, adding "his extensive experience in FMCG, together with his expertise in Finance and Supply Chain functions in foreign markets and board level responsibilities, makes him a very suitable resource to drive the Operations at Robi towards further success through focus and innovation."
Commenting his new role, Mahtab said that he was "happy to be part of this journey" because the move accentuates the fact that Axiata is deeply committed to building its talent for positions leadership positions in the organization and promoting them from within. He thanked the Axiata management and the management of Robi "for the trust and confidence they have placed on me."
Succeeding Mahtab Uddin Ahmed as CFO at Robi is Yap Wai Yip, who was the Group Financial Controller of Axiata Group. In his role as Group Financial Controller, Yap was responsible for business planning, statutory reporting, management reporting, treasury/accounting operations, corporate policy and LOA and enterprise risk management.
His experience and expertise has been leveraged in Axiata OpCos as a Board member of Smart and Multinet and in Board audit committees of Celcom, Robi and Smart.
Yap has made meaningful contributions to flagship companies like IBM, Asia Pacific region, and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. He also had a stint at Dialog Axiata Plc as Acting CFO and Acting CFO of Axiata Group. Yap is a chartered accountant by profession from the Chartered Association of Accountants, UK, and a Graduate from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, UK.
