Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has urged Intertek to share the progress made in the country's readymade garment (RMG) industry with the buyers.
Intertek is a British multinational assurance, inspection, products testing and certification company headquartered in London.
BGMEA, the apex body of the country's apparel manufacturers, made the request when a delegation of Intertek led by Sandeep Das, regional managing director - South Asia, paid a courtesy call on BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at the latter's office in Gulshan on Tuesday.
Both the parties had discussions over issues pertaining to the apparel industry of Bangladesh, global market situation, demand, and trends, according to a statement.
They also discussed how Intertek could play a more important role in addressing consumers' need for safety and product quality in line with international and domestic regulations.
BGMEA President Mr Hassan invited Intertek to actively participate in the "Made in Bangladesh Week" scheduled to be held in Dhaka in November 2022 and to join hands with BGMEA, in order to promote Bangladesh's apparel industry globally.
Intertek, as a multinational assurance, inspection, product testing and certification company, is witness to the impressive strides made by Bangladesh's garment industry over the years in the areas of workplace safety, environmental sustainability, compliance and ethical manufacturing issues, including hygiene, health and safety, waste management and workers' welfare, mentioned the BGMEA president.
Faruque Hassan urged Intertek to share the industry's achievements, which they have found during their first-hand audit, with the international buyers.
BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, Intertek Country Business Line Leader Neyamul Hasan, Head of Business Assurance Shoriful Islam, Head of Sales and Business Development Mainul Hasan Jony, and Senior Manager Aliza Sultana were also present in the meeting.
