A good number of local information technology (IT) firms have earned both local and foreign clients' confidence by developing world class software and earning CMMi Level3 certification.
The certification proves that local software developing firms are capable of maintaining international standard procedures while developing high tech and global standard software.
Some six local companies have received Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) Level3 certification which attests that the certified companies are capable of developing any kind of quality software.
The owner of a software developing company which has achieved the CMMi Level3 certificate said due to such an accomplishment he is now getting big jobs from both local and export markets.
He said it is a matter of huge investment and also a time consuming process to build infrastructure and employ skilled programme developers to seek CMMi Level3 appraisal and get the certification as the whole process costs at least Tk20 to Tk25 million and it takes more than a year's time.
CMMi Institute is a US-based organisation which works for software advancement, research and process management.
A Basis source said currently the outsourcing clients are confident and they are placing more work orders. The CMMi certified firms are exporting more than the other firms.
Chief Executive Officer of Datasoft Manjur Mahmud said, "We have earned both local and the foreign clients' confidence in developing world standard software."
He said at the end of the current year there would be another 10 to 12 CMMi Level3 certified firms in the country along with the existing six companies.
The local big conglomerates and financial institutions are now awarding their automation jobs to the local firms due to their capability and of being global standard, he said.
A source in the IT industry said it is difficult to get CMMi Level3 certification and retain it as the CMMi inspection team visits the firms and renews their status every three years.
He said the certification will have a 'snowball' effect it would help not only increase IT export but also assist the local market to grow.
