Special Tribunal started Sunday taking deposition in a case filed against Chittagong Cement Clinker & Grinding Company (CCCGC) and three other persons, lawyers said.
The securities regulator in 1997 filed the case against the company and the trio on charge of price manipulation of company's shares during 1996 market debacle.
The case was filed after a probe body headed by Aminul Islam, a senior teacher of Economics of Jahangirnagar University, submitted an inquiry report.
The three persons accused in the case are: Rakibur Rahman, a former DSE president, AS Shahudul Huque, a stockbroker, and Abu Tayab.
RA Rashid, a former executive director of the securities regulator, filed the case on behalf of the regulatory body.
As a petitioner, Mr. Rashid gave deposition in the tribunal.
During the hearing, Rakibur Rahman and AS Shahudul Huque were on the dock.
In his reply to Humayun Kabir, Judge of Special Tribunal, Mr Rahman said being instructed he filed the case on behalf of the regulatory body.
The tribunal fixed August 17 (today) for taking more depositions. On the day, members of the inquiry committee, formed to probe the 1996 stock market scam, are expected to give their depositions.
Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, the lawyer of Rakibur Rahman and Masud Rana Khan were present in the tribunal.
