Square Pharma tops DSE turnover chart -

Ten most-traded cos snare 23pc transaction

Square Pharmaceuticals topped the Dhaka Stock Exchange's turnover list on Wednesday after a long time while ten most-traded stocks accounted for 23 per cent transactions.

Analysts said investors were showing buying interest on large-cap stocks like Square Pharma, British American Tobacco, Khulna Power, Beximco and Beximco Pharma riding on new hopes.

The shares prices of the large-cap stocks also soared in recent times which helped the Dhaka bourse's market-cap hit a historical high at Tk 5,824 billion on Wednesday. The market-cap of the DSE surged to Tk 381 billion in a month.

According to DSE data, some 4.10 million shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of 989.76 million, which was 3.87 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 11.28 billion.

The leading drug maker's share price closed at Tk 243 each on Wednesday, rising 3.18 per cent over the previous day.

The company disbursed 47 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2020. In 2019, the company disbursed 42 per cent cash and 7.0 per cent stock dividend.

In nine months, the company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 13.12 for July 2020-March 2021 as against Tk 11.85 for July 2019-March 2020.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 8.86 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion while total number of securities is 886.45 million.

The sponsor-directors own 34.57 per cent stake in the company, while the institutional investors own 13.86 per cent, foreign investors 14.69 per cent and the general public 36.88 per cent as on July 31, 2021, the DSE data showed.

BATBC came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 876 million changing hands. The multinational company's share rose 1.72 per cent to close at Tk 660.20 each.

Khulna Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 792 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 50.10 each, rising 5.03 per cent.

Beximnco emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 660 million changing hands. The company's share rose 1.47 per cent to close at Tk 117.30 each.

Beximco Pharma notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 645 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 215.90, gaining 2.22 per cent.

The turnover of Saif Powertec was Tk 615 million. The company's share price dropped 2.68 per cent to close at Tk 34.40 each.

Bangladesh Finance featured a turnover of Tk 367 million. The company's share closed at Tk 66.60 each, rising 3.57 per cent.

The turnover of LafargeHolcim was Tk 350 million. The company's share fell marginally by 0.37 per cent to close at Tk 79.60 each.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company featured a turnover of Tk 334 million. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 221.70, losing 0.53 per cent.

Alif Manufacturing also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 322 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.34 per cent to close at Tk 17.50 each.
