Standard Bank celebrates 16th anniversary

Standard Bank Limited (SBL) Wednesday vowed to continuously improve its banking services for the customers ensuring quality and proper compliance.
The chairman and the managing director of the bank made the pledge while addressing a press conference, arranged at a city hotel, on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of its inception.
"We will continue making our best effort to take our banking services to a better level in the future," SBL chairman Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said.
"We want to maintain sustainable growth of our bank ensuring quality services and compliance (to relevant rules and regulation) so that no fraud and forgery take place," Md. Nazmus Salehin, managing director of SBL, said.
Mr Salehin also pledged to render better services to the clienteles in the future.
The bank's chairman announced formal launching of its mobile financial service (MFS) named "Spot Cash" that allowed the people to enjoy different services including cash-in, cash-out, mobile- top-up and person to person transfer (P2P) etc.
With a photograph, national identity card or any other valid photo ID, and by filling a KYC form, the people can be registered as Spot Cash account using any cell-phone number.
Such registration facility is available at any branch and authorised agent point of SBL, officials said.
Marking the founding anniversary, the Standard Bank also opened its 100th branch at Karwan Bazar area in the city.
"Customers of our Karwan Bazar branch will get loan at 0.5 per cent lower rate of interest than the bank's normal interest rate," Mr Ahmed announced to make opening of the 100th branch memorable.
Incorporated on May 11, 1999, the bank's total customers already reached 0.3 million, who have deposit of Tk 90 billion, he said, adding that the total deposits is Tk 100 billion.
The SBL also has investment worth Tk 85 billion, he said, adding that the bank is strictly maintaining corporate culture at its all levels.
The chairman further said that the bank has been facilitating the Bangladeshi migrants to safely remit foreign currency using its seven exchange houses in different counties, including the UK and USA.
Senior officials of the bank also attended the press conference.
