Dhaka stocks Thursday ended the session with a meager rise over mixed performance of the listed securities after the consecutive fall observed in previous two sessions.
The market started the day's session with a flying note and continued for around half an hour on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). At 10.52 am the DSE broad index (DSEX) rose 12 points.
Shortly afterwards, the DSEX went through ups and downs and lost the upward mode observed initially.
At the end of the session, the DSEX narrowly escaped the negative territory, although two other indices DSE Shahriah Index (DSES) and blue chip DS30 witnessed very insignificant fall.
"Lacking any prominent investment theme, market participants have diversified in strategy in micro level, which basically neutralize market movements on the macro level, yielding flat indices," said a market commentary of IDLC Investments.
DSEX rose 0.03 per cent or 1.7 points to close at 4760. Blue chips DS30 dipped 0.06 per cent or 1.18 to close at 1814, whereas the DSE Shariah DSES also lost 0.02 per cent or 0.24 to close at 1167.
"Buying interest sparked in last moment of the session closing the benchmark index meagerly up by 1.7 points. Investors became vigilant following the substantial volatility seen in this week," said another market commentary of LankaBangla Securities.
Among 320 issues traded, 156 advanced, 117 declined and remaining 47 were unchanged on the premier bourse.
At the end of the day's session, the turnover value stood at above Tk 4.48 billion which is 7.36 per cent up than the value observed in previous session.
Among the major sectors Bank and Pharmaceuticals rose 0.06 per cent and 0.68 per cent respectively while the Food & Allied, Telecommunication and Fuel & Power were down 0.27 per cent, 1.1 per cent and 0.25 per cent respectively.
Tannery contributed 2.6 per cent as Bata Shoe rose up to 3.5 per cent.
BSRM was the day's most traded stock with value of Tk 168 million followed by Square Pharma, ACI, Lafarge Surma Cement, Aman Feed, Grameenphone, Heidelberg Cement and Al-Haj Textile.
Modern Dyeing and Screen Printing observed highest hike in market price among the traded issues. The company's market price rose 9.96 per cent to close Tk 14.3 per share.
The other companies which also observed significant price hike are: Miracle Industries, ICB Employees Provident MF 1 : Scheme 1, Imam Button and Aj-Haj Textile.
On the other hand, Apex Tannery was the day's worst loser with a fall of 6.03 per cent or Tk 9 to close at Tk 140.20 followed by Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills, Zahin Tex, Gemini Sea Food and Rahim Textile.
On Thursday benchmark index CASPI rose 5.71 to close at 14574 points on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
Among 256 issues traded, 96 advanced, 118 declined and remaining 42 were unchanged.
At the end of the day's session, the turnover value stood at Tk 310 million on the port city bourse.
