Boat surfing in the Bay is increasingly becoming popular after the introduction of recreation facility by a foreign-managed company in Cox's Bazar, a top company official said.

"We're overwhelmed with the response. Tourists are increasingly being attracted to our new facility," Engr Aminul Islam, Chairman of the Metal (pvt) Limited, said.

"We are hopeful about returns, although it is a risky venture," he told the FE.

Metal (Pvt) Limited, a sister concern of the Project Builders Limited, has invested in new marine recreation for the first time in Bangladesh adding new dimension to local tourism.

He said that his company plans to build a mini golf club in the sandy beach.

Both foreign and domestic holiday makers for the first time are enjoying surfing facilities in Bangladesh as they do abroad.

Officials said the surfing equipment procured by the company is of international standard and the company is managed by British consultants and it has put in place good rescue and security arrangements.

A Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation official said the agency is encouraging the private sector to add funs like beach volleyball, Frisbee, more surfing boats and beach mini Golf Club and like others.

Different coloured surfing boats in the bay waves are now only marine recreational tools in the world's longest sea beach in Bangladesh.

After start of the club last month already a good numbers of tourists have enlisted their names in the club for surfing boats in the bay water.

This is for the first time by any private investor has invested for marine recreational facility in the longest beach of the world.

Engr Sadid Jamil, managing director of the Metal (pvt) Limited said, "We began operation of the surfing club last month and by this time a good number of surfers have become our members."

He said, "We are importing additional standard surfing boats and other recreational tools, then our members will get more facilities in our club."

A visiting surfer told to the FE over telephone, "It is really awesome overwhelming. Though there are so many volunteer surfing members in different banners in the beach area but for the first time I have seen a professional club with all modern facilities."

Mr. Islam, also managing director of the PBL, said the mini golf club tops the company's agenda and it will start building the club near the sea beach.
