Tapan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Pharmaceuticals, has been selected as chairman of the Central Depository Bangladesh Ltd (CDBL).
He was chosen by the directors of the CDBL at a board meeting on Thursday, according to a press release.
Rupali Haque Chowdhury, managing director of Berger Paints Bangladesh, has joined the CDBL as a director nominated by the Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC).
Ms Chowdhury, also BAPLC president, has replaced Salman F Rahman, formerly nominated by the association of listed companies.
Following a change in the political regime, top executives of different organisations of the capital market, including the securities regulator and the bourses, resigned from their positions.
The immediate past chairman of the CDBL, Sheikh Kabir Hossain and vice-chairman AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul have also stepped down.
The position of vice-chairman still remains vacant.
The CDBL, incorporated in August 2000, was sponsored by the country's nationalised commercial banks (NCBs), Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB), private commercial banks (PCBs), foreign banks, and merchant banks, publicly listed companies, insurers and Dhaka & Chittagong stock exchanges with a collaboration of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
