Ten most-traded stocks grab 25pc of turnover on DSE

BATBC leads the transaction chart

The ten most-traded stocks grabbed one-fourth of transactions of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday, with British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATBC) leading the turnover chart.

The total turnover, however, dropped to Tk 3.19 billion on the DSE, hitting a 16-month low, as investors were reluctant to inject fresh funds in stocks amid bearish mood.

The multinational tobacco company topped the turnover list after a long time.

According to data available with the DSE, some 199,735 shares of BATBC were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 104 million, which was 3.25 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The company's share closed at Tk 521 on Tuesday, losing 1.42 per cent over the previous day.

Meanwhile, the BATBC's share price plunged 30 per cent or Tk 226 each in the last nine months since October last year. Its shares traded between Tk 518 and Tk 754 in the last one year.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) surged by 7.81 per cent to Tk 7.73 for January-March 2022 as against Tk 7.17 for January-March 2021.

The company disbursed 275 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2021. In 2020, it provided a 600 per cent cash dividend.

KDS Accessories came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 102 million changing hands. The company's share rose 4.02 per cent to close at Tk 67.30 on Tuesday.

Beximco Pharma clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 83 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 145.60, advancing 0.21 per cent over the previous day.

Grameenphone emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The leading telecom operator's share dropped 1.11 per cent to close at Tk 286.30.

Sunlife Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 76 million changing hands. The life insurer's share closed at Tk 55.90, gaining 0.72 per cent.

The turnover of HR Textile was Tk 75 million. The textile company's share price surged 4.53 per cent to close at Tk 106.20 on Tuesday.

National Bank featured a turnover of Tk 73 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 8.20, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

The turnover of Sonali Paper & Board Mills was Tk 69 million. The company's share price fell 1.99 per cent to close at Tk 616.20 on Tuesday.

Square Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 68.63 million. The leading pharma company's share closed at Tk 212.80, losing 0.10 per cent.

The Orion Infusion also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 60 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.80 per cent to close at Tk 98.40.
