Ten most-traded stocks grab 31pc turnover

Beximco price jumps 501pc in one year

Ten most-traded stocks grabbed more than 31 per cent turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday while Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) continued to top the list.

Beximco, the flagship company of Beximco Group, is leading the market from the front in the past few months as the company continued to feature in the top turnover board, market operators said.

According to available data with the DSE, about 13.29 million Beximco shares were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 1.15 billion, which was 6.66 per cent of the day's total turnover of the main bourse.

The company's share price closed at Tk 86 on Tuesday, gaining 0.58 per cent over the previous day. Its shares traded between Tk 13 and Tk 98 in the last 52 weeks.

In the last one year, Beximco price jumped 501 per cent or about Tk 72 each. The company's share price was Tk 14.30 each a year back.

Beximco's earnings per share (EPS) in the first half of 2020-21 led to the buoyancy in the market. Beximco's EPS soared more than 255 per cent year-on-year to Tk 1.92 in the July- December, 2020.

Beximco, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 5.0 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2020.

The company is set to issue the first-ever private sector asset-backed Islamic Shariah compliant Sukuk Al Istisna of Tk 30 billion for business expansion.

Prime Bank was the second highest turnover leader with shares worth Tk 721 million changing hands following the news that the bank registered the highest EPS surged by 191 per cent to Tk 1.34 for January-March, 2021. Its EPS was Tk 0.46 in the same quarter of the previous year.

The Prime Bank's share closed at Tk 25.60 each on Tuesday, soaring 8.47 per cent over the previous day.

British American Tobacco Bangladesh clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 687 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 2.78 per cent to close at Tk 570 each.

Saif Powertec emerged as fourth, with shares worth Tk 661 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 27 each, rising 7.14 per cent over the previous day.

National Feed Mills notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 481 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 3.28 per cent to close at Tk 35.30 on Tuesday.

The turnover of Crystal Insurance was Tk 371 million. The non-life insurer's share closed at Tk 67.80 each, soaring 9.89 per cent over the previous day.

Pioneer Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 340 million. The insurer's share price dropped 3.59 per cent to close at Tk 104.70 each.

Turnover of Robi Axiata was Tk 320 million. The country's second largest telecom operator's share price closed at Tk 48.30, losing 1.82 per cent over the previous day.

City General Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 279 million. The insurer's share price soared 9.97 per cent to close at Tk 44.10 each.

LankaBangla Finance also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 273 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 2.26 per cent to close at Tk 34.50 each.
