Ten top-traded cos clinch 22pc turnover


Ten top-traded companies accounted for more than 22 per cent of transactions on the country's major bourse Wednesday.
Square Pharmaceuticals topped the list.
Market insiders said fundamentally-sound issues like Square Pharmaceuticals and Grameenphone (GP) continued to see price correction as investors were busy with booking profits from their recent price upsurge, taking them in the top turnover chart.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 373,978 shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 117 million, which was 3.20 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.52 billion, which was 46 per cent higher than the previous day's turnover of Tk 2.42 billion.
Square Pharma, the second largest market-cap company, saw its share price close at Tk 312.70, shedding 0.35 per cent from that of the previous session.
The country's one of the leading pharmaceuticals company's share price hovered between Tk 270 and Tk 335 in the last one year.
The pharma sector company has posted 16.21 per cent growth in consolidated earnings per share (EPS) in the October-December quarter (Q2) 2017 period. The EPS was Tk 3.87 for the October-December, 2017 against Tk 3.33 for the same period a year ago.
In six months for July-December, 2017, the consolidated EPS was Tk 7.85 against Tk 6.62 for the July-December period of 2016.
Apart from Square Pharma, the most other active shares in terms of value included GP, Doreen Power, IFAD Autos, Brac Bank, Wata Chemicals, LankaBangla Finance, Queen South Textile, ACI and Alif Industries.
GP followed next with shares worth more than Tk 104 million changing hands. The largest market-cap listed company's share price closed at Tk 477, losing 0.87 per cent over the previous session.
Doreen Power was the third with shares worth nearly Tk 104 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price fell 3.12 per cent to close at Tk 102.50.
IFAD Autos clinched the fourth spot, with shares worth Tk 101 million changing hands. The company's share price edged up by 0.76 per cent to close at Tk 119.50.
Brac Bank emerged fifth with shares worth Tk 61 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 90.80, losing 0.76 per cent over the previous day.
Wata Chemicals saw its shares worth nearly Tk 61 million change hands. The company's share price advanced 0.70 per cent to close at Tk 316.90.
The turnover of LankaBangla was Tk 58 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 27.70, losing 3.48 per cent.
The recelty listed Queen South Textile featured a turnover of Tk 56 million. The company's share price advanced 3.81 per cent to close at Tk 35.40.
The turnover of ACI was Tk 54 million. The company's share price advanced 1.41 per cent to close at Tk 410.80.
Alif Industries also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 50 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.46 per cent to close at Tk 88.20.
