Ten top-traded cos clinch 27pc of turnover

LankaBangla, Anwar Galvanizing, Square Pharma top the transactions chart

Ten top-traded companies captured more than 27 per cent transactions on the country's major bourse Sunday. LankaBangla Finance topped the list.

Brokers said investors were active on buying shares of LankaBangla Finance, taking the advantage of low prices after recent sharp correction, which helped it grab the top position.

The company has informed that a meeting of the board of directors will be held on February 13, 2018 at 3:00pm to consider, among others, audited financial statements of the company for the year ended on December 31, 2017.

"The board of directors is likely to recommend dividend in the meeting which encouraged the investors to take position on the company's shares," said a stockbroker.

LankaBangla disbursed 15 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2016.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 5.31 million shares of LankaBangla Finance were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 220 million, which was 4.83 per cent of the Dhaka bourse's total transactions.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.55 billion, which was 52 per cent higher than the previous day's turnover of Tk 3.0 billion. The non-bank financial institution's share price hovered between Tk 40.80 and Tk 41.60, before closing at Tk 41.50, gaining 1.72 per cent over the previous session.

Apart from LankaBangla Finance, the most other active shares in terms of value included Anwar Galvanizing, Square Pharmaceuticals, Monno Ceramic Industries, Mercantile Bank, Pharma Aids, Alif Industries, Keya Cosmetics, Grameenphone and City Bank.

Anward Galvanizing followed next, with shares worth Tk 158 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 76.80, soaring 9.87 per cent over the previous day. It was the day's second highest gainer.

Square Pharmaceuticals clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 156 million changing hands. The second largest market cap company's share price advanced 0.92 per cent to close at Tk 330.

Monno Ceramic emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 147 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 121.10, shedding 2.73 per cent.

Mercantile Bank saw its shares worth Tk 115 million change hands. The bank's share price rose 6.87 per cent to close at Tk 24.90. The turnover of Pharma Aids was Tk 103 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 483.30, advancing 0.16 per cent.

Alif Industries featured a turnover of Tk 102 million. The company's share price fell 2.12 per cent to close at Tk 111.

The turnover of Keya Cosmetics was Tk 87 million. Each share of the company closed at Tk 11.30, advancing 5.60 per cent over the previous day.

Grameenphone (GP) featured a turnover of Tk 84 million. The largest market cap listed company's share price gained 1.60 per cent to close at Tk 508.70.

City Bank was also found its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 77 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 44, gaining 2.56 per cent over the previous day.
