Top 7 Sensex cos lose Rs 247.83b in market valuation

NEW DELHI, Aug 10 (PTI): Market valuation of top seven Sensex companies fell by Rs 247.83 billion last week in an overall weak stock market.

TCS, ITC, Coal India, HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC suffered losses in their market capitalisation (m-cap). ONGC, RIL and Infosys however made gains.

The m-cap of IT behemoth TCS slumped Rs 79.23 billion to Rs 4849.81 billion, taking the biggest hit among the top-10 firms.

HDFC Bank's m-cap dropped Rs 45.69 billion at Rs 1919.84 billion. ICICI Bank lost Rs 45.11 billion at Rs 1662.18 billion.

The valuation of CIL plunged Rs 28.74 billion, to Rs 2241.68 billion, while mortgage lender HDFC's m-cap fell by Rs 20.68 billion, to Rs 1608.08 billion.

SBI's market value dipped Rs 18.03 billion, to Rs 1803.16 billion and that of ITC went down by Rs 10.35 billion at Rs 2774.20 billion.

In contrast, the m-cap of Infosys soared Rs 80.39 billion to reach Rs 1998.54 billion and ONGC added Rs 67.59 billion at Rs 3372.15 billion.

Similarly, RIL's value rose by Rs 6.31 billion to reach Rs 3170.53 billion.

In the ranking of top-10 firms, TCS retained its number one position followed by ONGC, RIL, ITC, CIL, Infosys, HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC.

Over the past week, the BSE 30-stock benchmark index, Sensex, fell by 151.7 points to settle at 25,329.14.
