Top 9 Indian cos lose Rs 741.93b from market valuation

NEW DELHI, Aug 3 (PTI): In-line with a weak stock market, nine of the top-10 most valued Indian companies together lost Rs 741.93 billion from their market valuation last week.

Barring ICICI Bank, rest nine companies, including TCS, ONGC, RIL, ITC and Coal India suffered losses.

The market-capitalisation of TCS plunged Rs 173.35 billion to Rs 4929.04 billion, taking the steepest hit among the top-10 firms.

RIL's value plummeted by Rs 139.79 billion to Rs 3164.22 billion, while that of ONGC tanked Rs 125.34 billion to Rs 3304.56 billion.

The m-cap of Coal India tumbled Rs 105.80 billion to Rs 2270.42 billion, while ITC's value declined by Rs 58.52 billion to Rs 2784.55 billion.

HDFC Bank's valuation dipped Rs 47.09 billion to Rs 1965.53 billion, while SBI suffered a loss of Rs 46.14 billion to Rs 1821.19 billion.

The market valuation of mortgage lender HDFC dropped Rs 39.02 billion to Rs 1628.76 billion and that of Infosys fell by Rs 6.89 billion to Rs 1918.15 billion.

In contrast, ICICI Bank added Rs 710.54 million to Rs 1707.29 billion in its value.

TCS continued to rule the domestic market-capitalisation chart, followed by ONGC, RIL, ITC, CIL, HDFC Bank, Infosys, SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC.

For the past week, the Sensex and Nifty were down 646 points and 188 points respectively -- snapping successive gains in the previous two weeks.
