Top ten traded companies accounted for more than 28 per cent transactions of the Dhaka bourse on Monday while Beximco dominated the chart.
Market insiders said investors were mostly active with those companies which saw their financial years end in June as they will declare dividends soon.
The most active shares in terms of value included Active Fine Chemicals, United Power, BBS Cables, LankaBangla Finance, National Housing Finance, Dhaka Bank, Rangpur Dairy & Food Products, MJL Bangladesh and IFAD Autos.
According to statistics available with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), about 11.83 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 320 million. It was 6.02 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.32 billion, up from Tk 4.20 billion of the previous day.
The share price of Beximco hovered between Tk 25.60 and Tk 27.80, before closing at Tk 27.50 each, soaring 7.42 per cent over the previous day.
Beximco, which was listed with the DSE in 1989, disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2017.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.41 for the January-March quarter of 2018 against Tk 0.33 for January-March 2017.
In nine months from July 2017-March 2018, the EPS was Tk 1.09 against Tk 0.87 for July 2016-March 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 8.34 billion, authorised capital Tk 10 billion and the total number of securities is 834.58 million.
Active Fine followed next, with shares worth Tk 244 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 38.80 each, shedding 2.26 per cent over the previous day.
United Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 163 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price fell 0.35 per cent to close at Tk 337.70 each.
BBS Cables emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 153 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 117.40 each, advancing 0.08 per cent.
The turnover of LankaBangla Finance was Tk 138 million. The company's share price fell 1.31 per cent to close at Tk 30 each.
National Housing Finance featured a turnover of Tk 120 million. Its share price jumped 5.34 per cent to close at Tk 63.10 each.
The turnover of Dhaka Bank was Tk 103 million. The bank's share price plunged 3.0 per cent to close at Tk 16.20 each.
RD Food featured a turnover of Tk 81 million. The company's share price rose 4.71 per cent to close at Tk 20 each.
The turnover of MJL BD was Tk 79 million. The company's share price soared 4.42 per cent to close at Tk 103.80 each.
IFAD Autos was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 78 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.16 per cent to close at Tk 122.80 each.
