Turnover, benchmark index mark rises

Both the turnover and benchmark index Tuesday rose on the premier bourse riding on the contribution of the major sectors.

"As market opened the DSE benchmark index DSEX quickly crossed 4,500-mark, which warranted sell pressure from the skeptic cohort which counterweighed the index down, again," said a market commentary of IDLC Investments.

The market, however, absorbed the sell pressure in later hours and regained momentum.

At the end of the day's session, the benchmark index DSEX rose 0.65 per cent or 29.15 points to close at 4506.71.

The DSE Shahriah Index went up by 0.61 per cent or 6.74 points to close at 1101.70, whereas the blue chips index DSE30 gained 0.63 per cent or 10.96 points to close 1741.82.

Turnover, volume and trade were up by 28.84 per cent, 12.23 per cent and 36.37 per cent respectively on the premier bourse.

A total of 0.093 million trades were executed on the DSE generating turnover value of over Tk 4.10 billion with trading volume of 126.89 million securities.

Among 309 issues traded, 174 advanced, 98 declined and 37 remained unchanged.

Among other major gainers, engineering, cement, and textile sectors were up by 1.8 per cent, 1.3 per cent, and 1.1 per cent respectively.

On the other hand, the fuel & power sector was down by 0.4 per cent.

At the end of the day's trading session, the turnover value stood at Tk 4.11 billion, which is 28 per cent up than the value observed in previous trading session.

United Airways topped the chart of the turnover leaders with a value of Tk 256.72 million followed by Familytex (BD), Khulna Power Company, RAK Ceramic, Grameenphone, Square Pharma, Summit Power and BEXIMCO.

Hakkani Pulp topped the chart of top ten gainers for the second consecutive session. On the day the company's market price was up by of 10 per cent.

On the other hand, Kay & Que was the day's worst loser with a fall of 8.06 per cent in market price.

On the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the benchmark index CASPI rose 95.47 points to close at 13856 points on Tuesday.

Among 240 issues traded, 136 advanced, 72 declined and 32 remained unchanged.

At the end of the session, the turnover value stood at Tk 349.19 million on the port city bourse.
