Two candidates to vie for DSE directorship ---

A former senior vice-president and a former director of Dhaka Stock Exchange have submitted their applications to vie for the post of a director of the premier bourse in line with the demutualisation scheme.

Two candidates are Ahmad Rashid, a former DSE senior vice-president and managing director of Rashid Investment Services Ltd, and Sharif Anwar Hossain, a former DSE director and managing director of Md. Shahidullah Securities Ltd.

The election commission of the DSE published the list of the candidates on the bourse's website. The last day for nomination withdrawal was December 15, according to the election schedule.

The three-member election commission headed by the retired Judge of the Supreme Court Md Abdus Samad, declared the DSE election schedule recently.

The election for the post of a shareholder-director of the DSE will be held on December 26, as one director will retire this year in line with the demutualisation scheme.

This year, Md Rakibur Rahman, chairman of Midway Securities, will retire from the DSE board, officials said.

As per the election schedule, the DSE election will be held from 10:00am to 3.00pm without any break in the auditorium of DSE Tower at Nikunja in Dhaka.

This year, 259 DSE voters are eligible to cast their ballot.

This year's newly elected director will join the 13-member board at the bourse's annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled to be held on December 28.

As per the demutualisation scheme, out of the 13-member board of the prime bourse, seven independent directors, four shareholder directors, one from strategic investors' category and the bourse's managing director.

Prior to demutualisation, Bangladesh's stock exchanges were non-profit cooperative organisations owned by the exchange members who are usually stockbrokers.

Meanwhile, the board of directors of the DSE has recommended a 4.0 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021.

The final approval of the dividend will come during the 60th annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled to be held on December 28.

The prime bourse has also reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 0.63, net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 10.49 and net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of Tk 0.87 for the year ended on June 30, 2021.
