Education minister Dipu Moni has said young people need to acquire more information technology (IT) skills as women need to be involved comprehensively in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
General education aside, she adds, any kind of technology-based knowledge transforms people into skilled manpower. Hence, everyone should have the mentality of getting such education and training.
Youths are driving the nation towards success, the minister said this at a function hosted by CodersTrust Bangladesh in Dhaka city on Thursday evening with CodersTrust founder Aziz Ahmed in the chair.
For two years, CodersTrust has trained the country's 1,000 young unemployed and disadvantaged women in IT. After successfully completing the courses, these women are now earning a living.
The event was organised to celebrate their achievements, award certificates and reward the best performers, reads a press release.
Ms Dipu says, "We are creating a lot more entrepreneurs with what CodersTrust is doing. They won't look for jobs for anyone else, but they will be able to create many more employment opportunities."
She appreciates the initiative of CodersTrust, saying that such initiatives are truly playing an important role in the process of building a digital Bangladesh in advancing women in the technology sector.
Speakers at the programme say most of the jobs that are available at this time will not exist when today's children will look to be employed in the future. With the advent of information technology, the type of work is constantly changing.
Referring to Bangladesh as a country of youth, they say 65 per cent of the people are below 35 years old. It is the strength of this youth that is leading the country towards success.
Parliament members Raushan Ara Mannan and Shirin Ahmed, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society chairman Maj Gen ATM Abdul Wahab, National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) chairman Dulal Krishna Saha, and former NSDA chairman Farooq Hossain were present as special guests.
