From the dense alleys of Dhaka to the distant hills of Rangamati, a quiet revolution is reshaping how millions access healthcare. At its heart is Robi Health Plus, a digital health platform turning mobile phones into medical lifelines and altering Bangladesh's healthcare landscape.
Born during the COVID-19 pandemic, Robi Health Plus was developed by Robi Axiata PLC in partnership with Supernova Techno Ltd. It has since evolved into one of South Asia's most impactful digital health initiatives, designed to make healthcare inclusive, affordable, and personal-for every Robi and Airtel user, regardless of location or literacy.
Unlike apps that require smartphones, Robi Health Plus uses an omnichannel approach. Through Android and iOS apps, SMS, IVR, and WAP services, users can access health features with or without internet. This ensures even remote communities can consult doctors, order medicines, and use insurance without leaving home.
The platform offers a full-service health ecosystem. Users consult certified doctors via live audio or video, receive digital prescriptions, and order medicine for home delivery. Health content-from doctor videos to nutrition blogs-builds awareness, while tools like BMI calculators and diet plans promote wellness.
Micro health and life insurance add a crucial layer of protection, covering hospital stays, outpatient tests, and dengue admissions-a major seasonal concern. The platform also emphasizes mental health and fitness, offering home workouts, wellness routines, and partnerships with providers like Lifespring.
Robi's extensive subscriber base-5 crore 74 lakh users, with 76.8 per cent data subscribers and 67 per cent on 4G-enabled this digital leap. The results speak volumes: over 20 million people accessed the service, with more than a million consultations and half a million prescriptions issued. Insurance disbursements exceeded $235,000, and monthly active users now surpass 80,000.
Real-world impact is visible in places like Kawkhali Upazila, where pharmacist Kamal Barua uses the Health Plus Family Package to help customers consult doctors remotely-eliminating long trips to clinics and bringing care directly to the community.
Future plans include affordable specialist access, personalized wellness plans, organic fitness food delivery, child health tracking, and monthly health webinars-signaling Robi's commitment to expanding innovative digital healthcare across the country.
