Amber IT Limited has launched an initiative to set up free Wi-Fi zones across Bangladesh to expand internet access for its broadband customers.
The company has already introduced the service at five locations and plans to establish 500 Wi-Fi zones nationwide within this year. The access points will be installed gradually in busy and important public areas, often in collaboration with local small businesses such as pharmacies, tea stalls and grocery shops.
Chief Executive Officer Aminul Hakim said the initiative aims to make reliable and affordable internet more accessible while creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
Existing Amber IT users can connect to the Wi-Fi zones free of charge using their registered mobile numbers. Non-customers will be able to access the service through coupon cards priced at Tk8 for five hours, Tk12 for one day, Tk66 for seven days and Tk200 for 30 days.
The first Wi-Fi zones have been launched in Barishal, Bhola, Sreemangal, Sirajganj and Nilphamari.
