Registration begins for BD team of World Robot Olympiad (WRO) open championship

The Asia Pacific Regional Tournament of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Open Championship will take place in Manila, Philippines, from September 18 to 21. Around 250 student teams from 47 countries will participate in the event, organized by Felta Multimedia Inc. under WRO Philippines' national initiative. Bangladesh will also compete in the tournament, with team selection and registration being conducted by Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) and World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh (WROBd). Registration will remain open until June 30. Each participating team can include 2-3 members and one coach. The selected teams will represent Bangladesh at the WRO Asia-Pacific Open Championship. The WRO Open Championship is held annually across continents-Americas, Europe, Middle East-North Africa, and Asia-Pacific-to make participation accessible and foster local student interest in robotics. Bangladesh will send four teams across three categories: two in Future Innovators, one in Future Engineers, and one in Robosports.

To participate, individuals must comment on vivo Bangladesh's official Facebook campaign post with a meaningful photo and a heartfelt caption, share the post publicly on their timeline, and include the hashtags #HappyFathersDay and #vivoBangladesh.
vivo says the campaign reflects its belief that technology goes beyond functionality, serving as a bridge to strengthen emotional connections. Through "Moments with Dad," the brand encourages people to honour the love, guidance, and memories that define the father-child bond.

Bangladesh to host first national semiconductor symposium and BEAR summit 2025

With the vision of transforming Bangladesh into a "Nation of Innovation," the country will host its first-ever Bangladesh National Semiconductor Symposium on July 16. The event will be held simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram, bringing together local and international entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders from the semiconductor sector. Coinciding with the symposium, the BEAR Summit 2025-focusing on Biotech, Electronics, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics-will run from July 16 to 18, emphasizing semiconductor applications. Preparations are in full swing, with venue confirmations for the BEAR Summit expected soon.
A preparatory meeting with multiple stakeholders is scheduled for June 24. Universities nationwide have been invited, and participants from Chattogram will join virtually. The organizing committee comprises notable Bangladeshi academics and industry professionals from prestigious institutions worldwide, including Purdue University, University of California-Berkeley, BUET, and companies like Applied Materials and NXP Semiconductors.

EGCB partners with Huawei for advanced disaster recovery infrastructure

The Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB) signed an agreement to adopt Huawei's Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) recently for enhancing its disaster recovery (DR) capabilities. The contract was signed between EGCB and Huawei's local partner, Omega Exim Ltd., at Huawei Bangladesh Headquarters in Dhaka. Under the two-year agreement, Huawei IaaS will provide EGCB with a secure, scalable environment for data backup, replication, routine recovery testing, and rapid restoration during operational disruptions.
Omega Exim Ltd. will handle local deployment, project management, staff training, and long-term maintenance. EGCB's Superintending Engineer Mohammad Rasheduzzaman Khan emphasized the importance of modernizing DR infrastructure, citing Huawei's unmatched expertise. Omega Exim Director Abdullah Al Maksud Begh and Huawei South Asia Cloud Director Zhong Yubing highlighted Huawei Cloud's global experience, reliability, and rapid growth, particularly in the APAC region, where it leads in hybrid cloud solutions in Bangladesh, Thailand, and Hong Kong.

TikTok unveils new tools to personalise and
safeguard contents

TikTok has introduced a suite of new features aimed at giving users greater control over their 'For You Feed', enhancing content personalization and discovery. The updates include a "Manage topics" feature that allows users to adjust the frequency of videos related to over 10 topics such as travel, sports, and creative arts, while AI-powered Smart keyword filters enable more precise content control by recognizing related keywords and synonyms. TikTok will also expand keyword limits and introduce bulk management soon.
An educational guide has been launched to help users better understand and manage their feed, building on existing tools like the "why this video" feature and educational content that has attracted over 180 million views globally.
