HONOR to begin local manufacturing in Bangladesh

Global AI technology brand HONOR has announced the start of local manufacturing in Bangladesh through a new partnership with Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd. The agreement, signed by George Zhao, President of HONOR South East Asia, and Md. Jahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies, paves the way for a state-of-the-art factory at Smart Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair. The plant will enable devices to carry the "Made in Bangladesh" label, enhancing local technological capabilities and consumer access to advanced mobile innovation.

George Zhao highlighted Bangladesh's rapid growth and reaffirmed HONOR's commitment to empowering local talent and delivering high-quality devices. Md. Jahirul Islam noted that the initiative will create opportunities and strengthen national expertise. Entering the market in 2023, HONOR has become a leading smartphone brand, and the new facility reflects its vision for shared growth and human-centric innovation.

Kaspersky achieves ISO 26262 certification for automotive safety

Kaspersky has received ISO 26262 certification for its automotive software development process, underscoring both its cybersecurity expertise and its maturity in functional safety. ISO 26262, the global standard for ensuring the safety of electrical and electronic systems in mass-produced vehicles, aims to minimise risks arising from system failures.

With this certification, Kaspersky can now develop solutions compliant with ASIL B requirements, strengthening its position in the automotive, transport, and industrial sectors. This enables the company to expand offerings such as the Kaspersky Automotive Secure Gateway and pursue new collaborations with automakers and system integrators.

Bangladesh scales seven-year high in global internet freedom index

Bangladesh has posted its strongest improvement in online freedom in seven years, with its Internet Freedom Index score rising from 40 to 45 in Freedom House’s Freedom on the Net 2025 report. The country now ranks closer to India (51) and Sri Lanka (53), marking progress despite a global decline in digital liberties.According to a press release from the Posts and Telecommunications Division, the advancement follows reforms undertaken after Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb became Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Key measures include a new Telecom Ordinance, an overhauled surveillance framework, and passage of the Personal Data Protection Ordinance and the National Data Management Ordinance—praised by a visiting World Bank delegation as world-class.Freedom House cited the fall of a repressive government in August 2024, policy reforms by the interim administration, an end to internet shutdowns, and repeal of a controversial cyber law as major contributors to the progress.
