Kaspersky reports 14 pc rise in malware

Kaspersky's systems detected an average of 467,000 malicious files daily in 2024, a 14 per cent rise from 2023. Windows remained the primary target, accounting for 93% of detections. Malware for Windows increased by 19 per cent, with Trojans surging 33 per cent and Trojan-droppers soaring 150%. These findings are detailed in the Kaspersky Security Bulletin (KSB), which highlights key cybersecurity trends.
Notable threats included attacks on trusted relationships, supply chains, and open-source packages, as well as widespread phishing, banking malware, and the use of AI to generate malicious files. "Adversaries continue developing new malware, techniques, and methods, making reliable security solutions essential," said Vladimir Kuskov, Head of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky.
To stay safe, individuals should avoid untrusted apps, use two-factor authentication, and maintain updated software. Organizations are advised to restrict RDP access, implement strong passwords, and back up data. Solutions like Kaspersky NEXT EDR Expert provide advanced threat neutralization and robust protection.
