The government has announced the names of 30 factories to receive the prestigious Green Factory Award 2025, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to environmentally sustainable industrial practices across Bangladesh.
According to a circular of the Ministry of Labour and Employment to this effect, the factories have been selected in accordance with the 'Green Factory Award Policy 2020.'
A wide range of sectors were considered under this policy, including textiles, garments, accessories, agro-processing, electronics, food, tea, cement, footwear, and pharmaceuticals.
In the Ready-made Garments (Knit) category, Charka Textile Ltd, Ecotex Ltd and Fakir Fashion Limited have been selected for their innovation in sustainable garment production.
Tarasima Apparels Ltd, Auku Tex Ltd and Square Fashion Ltd were selected under the Ready-Made Garments (Woven) category.
In the Textile category, Akij Textile Mills Ltd, Pioneer Denim Limited, KDS Textile Mills Ltd (Unit-02) and 4H Dyeing & Printing Ltd have been selected for the award.
The state-owned Progoti Industries Ltd is the only company nominated under the category of Automobile Industry.
Transcom Electronics Ltd, Fair Electronics Ltd and Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC have been selected under the category of the Electronics, and Electrical Goods Manufacturing Industries.
Adzi Trims Ltd has been named for the award under the Accessories and Backward Linkage Factory category.
In the Food Processing (Food & Beverage) category, Akij Food & Beverage Ltd and Habiganj Agro Ltd have been nominated for the award.
Zareen Tea Garden and Mirzapur Tea Garden have been selected under the Tea Industry category.
Suniverse Footwear Ltd has been selected under the category of Leather Industry (Finished Goods).
Karupanya Rangpur Ltd and X Ceramics Ltd have nominated under the Jute Mill and Tiles & Ceramics Industries categories.
Remark HB Ltd and Square Toiletries Ltd have been nominated under the Cosmetics Factory category.
SKF Pharmaceuticals Ltd is the only company selected under the Pharmaceuticals Industry category.
In the Ship-Building & Ship-Breaking Industries category, PHP Ship Breaking & Recycling Industries Ltd, Khulna Shipyard Ltd and KR Ship Recycling Yard have been selected for the award.
Seven Circle (Bangladesh) Ltd and BSRM Steels Ltd have been nominated in the Cement Factory and Steel Mill categories.
The Green Factory Award was aimed at encouraging industries to adopt environmentally friendly practices while improving workplace safety and ensuring compliance with labour standards.
The first edition of the Award was held in 2021, marking a turning point for industrial sustainability in Bangladesh.
According to the ministry officials, the award ceremony will be held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium today (Tuesday).
