BAFFA contradicts media reports

The Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BAFFA) has expressed concern over recent media reports inaccurately suggesting a rise in airfreight rates from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), allegedly due to the suspension of transshipment services through Indian territories.
A statement signed by BAFFA President Kabir Hossain clarified that there had been no arbitrary increase in rates, asserting that such reports are misleading and factually incorrect.
The association emphasised that Dhaka's airfreight rates remained competitive on the global stage.
According to BAFFA, European air cargo handling rates average between $2.70 and $2.80 per kilogram, aligning closely with the adjusted rates at HSIA when considering regional operational realities.
BAFFA further stressed that Bangladesh's airfreight industry adhered to internationally recognized practices, ensuring that rates reflect the quality and efficiency of services provided.
In response to the media coverage, BAFFA urged all outlets to exercise greater responsibility and due diligence when reporting on sensitive trade and transport issues. The association reiterated its openness to engaging with journalists to provide accurate data and context.
"We highly appreciate the decisive action taken by Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, who oversees the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Textiles & Jute, and Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. His efforts have helped prevent any increase in freight rates at HSIA, ensuring stability in the sector," BAFFA added.
The association also called on the relevant authorities, including the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), airlines, and other industry partners, to stand united against misinformation that could destabilise the sector.
As Bangladesh continues its growth as a regional logistics and trade hub, BAFFA emphasised the importance of maintaining transparency, credibility, and trust in the nation's freight infrastructure.
