Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak speaks at a views-exchange meeting with the board of directors of BGMEA at the Secretariat in the city on Wednesday. Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute Md Abdur Rouf and BGMEA President Faruque Hassan were present on the occasion.

Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak said the country is not reliant on anyone for exporting garment products, as the nation has forged its own path in the global market amid competition, report agencies.
"Our garment products have a huge demand in the world market, so we don't need to depend on anyone," he told reporters after a view-exchange meeting with BGMEA leaders at his Secretariat office in the city on Wednesday.
He said that a vested quarter is hatching a conspiracy regarding the garment industry, aiming to manipulate it for their own agenda.
"The government remains alert to their conspiracy," he added.
Nanak, also an Awami League presidium member, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to build a 'Smart Bangladesh'.
At the meeting, the BGMEA leaders discussed issues related to the development of the apparel and textile industry in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on enhancing the capacity of the local textile industry in the production of non-cotton yarn and fabrics.
BGMEA president Faruque Hassan apprised the minister of the RMG industry's special emphasis on producing value-added garments based on man-made fibres to meet the increasing demand in the global market.
The gradual shift towards non-cotton products has led to an increase in demand for yarn and fabrics, he said, adding that the local textile sector could meet this demand by developing its capabilities.
This, in turn, would contribute to an enhanced value addition to garments.
Faruque highlighted the industry's ongoing transition towards sustainability and circularity, aligning with global business trends.
He stressed the need to explore the potential of manufacturing fabrics from jute, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly apparel in the global market.
BGMEA Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan and Shams Mahmud, Chair of the BGMEA Standing Committee on Foreign Mission Cell, were present in the meeting.
