RAJSHAHI, April 7 (BSS): In the wake of long-lasting demand, Bangladesh Biman (BB) re-launched the Rajshahi-Dhaka air-flight operation today after a gap of more than eight years.
Due to shortage of planes, Biman had suspended operations on the domestic route on February 20, 2007.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, MP, inaugurated the airline operation at Shah Mukhdum Airport here this afternoon as the chief guest.
From now on, the flight will carry passengers on the route three days--- Sunday, Tuesday and Friday--- every week and the fair has been fixed at Tk 2,700 per passenger, the airport sources said.
Speaking on the occasion, Menon said the people of Rajshahi had been demanding flight operation on the route for long.
He himself also committed to fulfill the demand repeatedly. Finally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina contributed a lot to materialize the demand, he added.
He said the present government has taken a number of measures including procuring new aircrafts and modernizing the management of the airlines for turning Biman into a profitable one.
