PANCHAGARH, May 27 (BSS): The boro paddy and rice procurement drive started in the district on Wednesday under the auspices of the district food department.
Sadar Upazila Chairman and district Awami League General Secretary Anwar Shadat Samrat formally inaugurated the drive by purchasing 10 tonnes of Boro rice from Sonali Hasking Mill at the Panchagarh Sadar government food warehouse.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the chairman said the Boro paddy and rice procurement drive was launched by opening seven purchasing centres in the district following the instructions of the government to ensure fair prices of paddy and rice.
Under the drive, the farmers will get the opportunity to sell their Boro paddy and rice directly to the purchasing centres at Tk 22 per kg and Tk 32 per kg respectively.
The district food controller, Abdul Kader, told the news agency that the government fixed the target to procure 15,356 tonnes of Boro rice from the enlisted rice millers and 341 tonnes of Boro paddy from the farmers in the district.
