Bumper jute production likely in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, July 27(BSS): Farmers in Jamalpur district are expecting bumper production of jute this year due to favourable weather.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source said jute plants are growing rapidly because of timely rain and sunlight, ideal conditions which is available this year.
The office said farmers have brought 44,868 hectares of land under jute cultivation in the district this year.
The office said four varieties of jute have been cultivated in the district this year with a production target of 4,82,201 bales of jute.
The DAE office said, jute on 3,725 hectares of land in Jamalpur sadar upazila 4, 563 hectares land in Sarishabari upazila 15, 890 hectares of land in Islampur upazila 3, 560 hectares of land in Melandah upazila 6, 850 hectares in Dewanganj upazila 6,470 hectares in Madarganj upazila and 3, 810 hectares of land in Bakshiganj upazila have been brought under cultivation.
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer, DAE, Md. Emran Hossain said farmers already harvested jute from 1,300 hectares of land.
