Bumper potato output expected in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Jan 30 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting a bumper production of potato in four upazilas of the district during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension office sources said they fixed a target to bring 1,335 hectares of land under potato cultivation in four upazilas of the district with the production target 33,000 tonnes.
But, the farmers have successfully brought 1,570 hectares of land under the cultivation programme taking advantage of favourable climatic conditions.
Of which, 690 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation in Sadar upazila with the production target of 13,800 tonnes of potato, 200 hectares in Alamdanga with the production target of 4,000 tonnes, 280 hectares in Damurhuda with the production target of 5,600 tonnes and 480 hectares in Jibannagar upazila with the production target of 9,600 tonnes of potato.
The harvesting of potato would continue till March next, the sources added.
