Bumper production of carrot in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Dec 6 (BSS): The Carrot cultivators of Singair Upazila of the District achieved a bumper production during the current season.

About 20, 000 cultivators of the area are happy to get the fair price. Now they are busy harvesting carrot and selling it in the market.

Some cultivators of the upazila, when contacted said that many retailers and wholesalers of Shyam bazaar, Karwan bazaar, Mirpur and some other markets of the capital city were visiting the remote areas of the upazila for buying carrot every day.

Cultivators of the upozila were busy washing carrot in the canals, ditches and tanks and processing it to send to the different markets in the country including Dhaka.

Department of Agricultural  Extension (DAE) sources said the cultivation of carrot is gaining popularity in the areas of the upazila due to easy cultivation process, short period crops and reasonable market price.

More over the soil of this particular area of Singair upazila of the district is suitable for carrot cultivation.
