GAIBANDHA, July 22 (BSS): A bumper production of sugarcane planted in 2014-15 season is expected at eight sub-zones of Rangpur Sugar Mills Limited (RSML), as the sugarcane plants have grown well.

According to the mill sources, to run the mill properly and to turn it into a profitable one in the near future, the authorities took many initiatives including high quality seed distribution, subsidy and loan disbursement to growers on easy terms.

Besides, the officials and the staff of the mill conducted motivational and monitoring programmes for the farmers of the mill zones during the plantation season to bring more land under sugarcane farming to attain the cherished goal.

In response, about 5,000 farmers of the sub-zone areas of the mill have cultivated sugarcane on 3,882 acres of land in 2014-2015 plantation season and they are expecting a bumper yield.

Zinnat Ali Prodhan, president of sugarcane growers' association of the mill, said favourable climatic condition, timely supply of high quality seed, fertilisers, insecticides and other agri inputs and proper disbursement of subsidy and agri-loan among the growers are the main reasons behind the expectation of bumper production.

Talking to the news agency, Managing Director of the RSML Abdul Khaleque said about 77,640 tonnes of sugar will be attained by crushing 60,000 tonnes of sugarcane during the 2014-2015 plantation season.

Over Tk 2.20 million (22 lakh) were disbursed among the growers as subsidy to encourage them to cultivate sugarcane on their respective land at mill zone area and also help them earn economical profit from the farming, he added.
