CHATTOGRAM, Apr 09: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Saturday held a views-exchange meeting with stakeholders on market monitoring during Ramadan.

CCCI President Mahbubul Alam chaired the meeting, held at the hall room of the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Agrabad in the port city.

Addressing the meeting, Mahbubul Alam urged the traders not to hike prices of essential commodities during Ramadan.

He also called upon the local administration officials not to harass the business people unnecessarily in the name of conducting drives against price hike.

"The wholesale traders keep the commodities at their godown and warehouses before supplying those to the retail markets and this is part of the supply chain. So, magistrates and (market monitoring) teams of the government agencies should help ensure that there is no disruption in the supply chain."

About the price hike, he said, "It is a fact that the prices of essentials went up in the current year due to the Russia-Ukraine war."

"But the authorities concerned are very alert (to the price instability) and they are taking steps to rein in the price hike in the Ramadan month," he added.
