DAE starts distributing Aman seedlings in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Sept 17 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has started distributing seedlings of late variety Aman paddy to the affected farmers of the district to recoup their losses caused by recent floods.

According to sources the district was hit by the floods two times during the current monsoon damaging standing crops particularly T-Aman paddy, seed bed, summer vegetable and banana on thousands hectares of land fully and partially.

As the peak time of transplanting late variety Aman paddy is going on, the DAE took an initiative to distribute seedlings of Aman paddy free to 400-flood affected marginal farmers of the upazilas.

Accordingly, the seedlings of Nazirshail, Ganzia and BR-23 were distributed to the selected farmers of Shaghata upazila of the district on Wednesday at the arrangement of the upazila agriculture office.

Shaghata UNO Abdul Awal formally distributed the seedlings of the varieties to the 80 farmers of the upazila in a function held on the premises of the upazila parishad in the afternoon.

Upazila agriculture officer AKM Mubinuzzaman, agriculture extension officer ATM Hamim Ashraf, political leaders and public representatives were present during the seedlings distribution.

Deputy Director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said the seedlings of late variety Aman paddy produced on the land of ATI Gaibandha and BADC farm, Baradi, Meherpur were being provided to the farmers to help recoup the losses.
