DAE to give farmers free crops seed

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken up a plan to distribute seed of various crops with fertilisers to the small and marginal farmers of Gaibandha district during the current Robi season free of cost, reports BSS.

The seed of mustard, wheat, maize, summer mungbean, winter mungbean and ground nut would be distributed to the farmers of the district under Agriculture Incentive Programmes of the government.

This was disclosed by deputy director (DD) of DAE Krishibid Masudur Rahman at a monthly meeting of district development coordination committee held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) in Gaibandhs town with DC Abdul Matin in the chair.

DD Masudur Rahman said each of the 6,000 farmers will get one kilogram (kg) of mustard seed with 10 kg of Murate of Potash (MoP) and 20 kg of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) to farm it on a bigha of land, while 5500 farmers each would receive 20 kg wheat seed with 10 kg MoP and 20 kg of DAP to farm it on a bigha of land.

Each of the 10,000 beneficiary farmers would get maize seed with 10 kg of MoP.

and 20 kg of DAP and 200 farmers each would receive china badaam seed with 5 kg MoP and 10 kg DAP from the department to cultivate it on a bigha of land, he also said.

Under the programme, each of the 600 farmers would get winter mungbean seed with 10 kg of MoP and 10 kg of DAP and summer mungbean seed with 10 kg of MoP and 10 kg of DAP from the department to farm it on a bigha of land, he added.

The DD also sought whole hearted cooperation of the upazila chairmen and UNOs to distribute the seed and the chemical fertilizers to the affected farmers without any criticism and hassle.

Talking to the BSS, DD of DAE Krishibid Masudur Rahman said the seed and the fertilizer distribution activity had already begun in the upazilas here through upazila agriculture offices and it will end very immediately.
