There was a 'stronger' tone in the market following more demand from the Blenders and 'fair' interest from the Loose tea buyers in the weekly tea auction in Chittagong Tuesday. As a result, prices moved up in Sellers' favour for most varieties. Good liquoring Dusts were again a strong feature of the sale, according to a market report.
CTC LEAF: 39,418 packages and 804 packages of old season teas on offer met with a stronger demand at mostly higher rates.
BROKENS: All good liquoring Brokens were strongly competed for and were dearer by Tk 3 to Tk 5, selling between Tk 190 and Tk 195. Medium and plainer varieties were also a strong market at generally firm to slightly dearer rates. However, plainer varieties, met with less demand with fair withdrawals.
FANNINGS: Good liquoring Fannings were a strong feature and were mostly dearer often by upto Tk 5 and more. Mediums were also dearer by upto Tk 3 to Tk 4. Plainer varieties met with only a fair demand and there were several withdrawals.
CTC DUST: 5,892 packages and 40 packages of Old Season teas on offer met with a better demand at firm to dearer rates. Good liquoring varieties particularly the Ds met with more competition and were a dearer market advancing by upto Tk 5 and more. Others mostly sold around last levels with the plainer varieties easing slightly. Both Blenders and Loose tea buyers lent good support.
