Gold price in the domestic market has remained unchanged for more than two months despite fluctuations of its prices in the global market.
The local jewellers revised their rates upward on February 15 last in line with the enhanced rates of the precious metal in the international market.
According to the last price adjustment, price of a bhori of 22-carat gold is now Tk 48,406, 21-carat Tk 46,248, 18-carat Tk 39,658, and the traditional gold Tk 27,410 in the local market, Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BJS) data showed.
Since December 20 last year, the price of per bhori of 22-carat gold was 46,947; 21-carat Tk 44,848; 18-carat Tk 38,432 and traditional gold Tk 26,244.
Talking to the FE, BJS general secretary Dewan Aminul Islam said: "We have no immediate plan to revise the prices of gold in the domestic market as its price is showing frequent ups and downs."
Mr Islam said, "The international market price of gold fluctuated from $1299.27 to $1320.43 an ounce on February 14 this year. It is around $60 higher than our last price fixed in December last year."
Over the last couple of months, there was no big gap in the prices of gold between the local and global market, he mentioned.
Mr Islam said the price of gold in the international market suddenly went up to $1379 per ounce in the middle of March but within two days it dropped; so we did not revise the price in the domestic market.
"Generally, the local jewellers observe the gold price of international market and if the trend continues for three or four days, then we meet to revise the price", he added.
Reuters reported Friday that gold premiums in India, the world's second biggest consumer after China, jumped to their highest level in more than two and a half months due to short supplies amid firm demand ahead of the second-biggest gold buying festival.
Premiums for gold bars rose more than 23 per cent to $110 an ounce on London prices, a level last seen in early February, compared with $89 an ounce earlier in the week. Premiums had struck a record of $160 an ounce in December last year.
