Fish fingerlings released in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Oct 10 (BSS) : Jamalpur Fisheries Department has recently released fish fingerlings in various water bodies in seven upazilas of the district to boost fish production.
According to fisheries department, the government has taken up the programme to meet the protein deficiency of the poor people in the district.
It further said, 5,208 kilograms fish fingerlings (10 to 15 cm long) of Rui, Katal. Mrigel , Kalabous and Ghania varieties were released in 67 various flood plain, government and institutional water bodies in Jamalpur sadar, Melandah, Islampur, Dewanganj, Madarganj, Sarishabari and Bakshiganj upazilas.
A total of 4,943 people-3,506 males and 1,437 females - will be benefited under the programme, the sources said.
After nursing 4 months the beneficiary groups would consume the fishes.
Ranajit Kumar Paul, district Fisheries officer, said after four months the beneficiaries would get an additional production of about 23 tonnes fishes worth of about Tk  2.8 million.
