The prices of ginger have declined in the kitchen market thanks to a satisfactory supply, industry people said.
"The wholesale price of different types of ginger reduced by Tk 5 to Tk 10 per kilogram compared to the previous week," Narayan Saha, a wholesaler of Shyambazar, told the FE Tuesday.
He said a kg of Bhutanese ginger is selling between Tk 40 and Tk 45, Indian variety between Tk 55 and Tk 65 and Indonesian one between Tk 85 and Tk 90.
The Bhutanese ginger sold between Tk 50 and Tk 55, Indian one between Tk 70 and Tk 75 and Indonesian between Tk 90 and Tk 95 last week.
Mr Narayan said the demand of ginger is now comparatively low whereas a big amount of ginger has recently been imported. For this reason the price of ginger slightly reduced.
Majharul Alam, a retailer of Mohammadpur, said the price of a kg of local ginger is now Tk 120 and Tk Chinese ginger Tk 130 which is reduced by Tk 5 from the previous week.
Different types of ginger were selling between Tk 80 and Tk 160 in retail market Tuesday while the prices were between Tk 100 and Tk 180 last week, according to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) data.
The yearly demand of ginger in Bangladesh is nearly 0.25 million tonnes, Department of Agricultural Marketing sources said.
